The film Numbered follows the dramatic story of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews, told by surviving witnesses of the events. In 1942, during the darkest time in human history, a miracle happened in a most unexpected place. While millions of Europe's Jews had already been sent to the Nazi death camps, a handful of people in tiny Bulgaria confronted Hitler. And they succeed.
Thanks to the determination and bravery of Bulgaria and the Bulgarians, the Bulgarian Jews were not only saved, but their community increased at the end of the war. The film is a true story of ordinary people who did extraordinary things. It touches on the cost of freedom, love and ultimate sacrifice, and the rescue of 49,172 Jews from the Holocaust. During World War II, of the 22 countries occupied by the Nazis, only one small nation was able to save its entire Jewish community.
The film is a Bulgarian-Israeli-American production directed by Plamen Petkov and produced by Atanas Kolev. Screenwriter is prof. Vladimir Ignatovski. We look forward to seeing you at this unique screening!
