About the film
"Caval Park is a Bulgarian-American production by director Bogdan Darev, who lives and works in Seattle, and the Bulgarian Society for Education and Culture "Bee" in Los Angeles.
The film depicts the life and creative impulses of an American citizen who lived and studied in Bulgaria and whose inexhaustible love for our folk music, Bulgarian culture and the Bulgarian people awaken in the viewer a sense of deep respect and national pride. "Caval Park is as much a documentary as it is a work of art.
The director's aim is to shoot and edit the film as a narrative, as a letter to the future generations of Bulgaria. The film thus becomes a symphony of images and feelings, notes from the past, present and future, capturing moments from the rich and peculiar life of Maestro Epler.
"My mother is sick and cannot move. If it were not for this misfortune, I would certainly stay here forever. In fact, I have become so accustomed to the people of Plovdiv that I don't think I would leave here."
Notes from director Bogdan Darev
"Alexander Epler is not a superhero and that's why I love him. But he could be a superhero and his superpower could be music. Alexander doesn't save the world in a Hollywood way. But his unstoppable love for music, for Bulgarian culture and the Bulgarian people awakened in me a feeling of deep adoration.
KAVAL PARK is as much a documentary as it is a work of art. My aim was to shoot and edit the film as a narrative, as a letter, as a symphony of images and feelings, notes from the past, present and future, capturing moments from the rich and singular life of Maestro Epler.
The dream of Bai Sasho Epler was to give to the Bulgarians. Our mission is to make KAVAL PARK the most watched documentary in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian diaspora around the world. This is how we respect and realize the dream of Bai Sasho."
