About the film
"The First Lap" is a documentary film directed by Dimo Petkov, which follows the story of the first Bulgarian team competing in the prestigious German GT4 series. Driven by sheer enthusiasm and an undying passion for motorsport, the Overdrive team learns on the fly and overcomes challenges along the way with limited resources and minimal racing experience. The film captures in real time the trials and triumphs faced by its protagonists: a 16-year-old driver seeking a balance between sport and education, a former artist turned talented mechanic and an automotive engineer coming from academia. Despite its outsider position in a discipline dominated by well-funded teams, Overdrive wins the hearts of fans and becomes a source of national pride. Focusing on themes such as the indomitable human spirit and the power of team play, the film shows that even a team from a country without a race track can leave a mark on motorsport and give birth to dreams of great achievements in GT4 and beyond.
