Bulgarica Cultural Center is pleased to invite you to the lecture-discussion:
"The image of Tsar Simeon the Great through the eyes of his own and others".
When: 20 May, Saturday at 20:00
Where: the Bulgarica Centre
Address: 1120 S Elmhurst Rd, Mount Prospect, IL 60056.
Lecturer: Kamelia Popova
Using new research, the lecture will illustrate not only the ambitions, goals and achievements of Tsar Simeon, but also their interpretation through the eyes of his contemporaries.
In what light was the man and ruler Tsar Simeon, himself a product of the Byzantine political school, perceived and presented, who entered into a struggle with the empire in order to win a leading place for Bulgaria on the Balkan Peninsula?
The image of a strong ruler - the defender of Bulgarian national interests and state independence - is particularly relevant with the questions it provokes.
The event is dedicated to the Day of Bulgarian Literature and Culture and the 1096th anniversary of the death of Tsar Simeon.
Welcome!
