Welcome to the first gathering for 2023
of the Historical Circle "Rodolubie" at Bulgarica Center on February 18 at 19:00, which will
commemorate the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the tragic death of Vasil Levski.
Let's honor our national hero together! We are waiting for you!
The still unexplained circumstances surrounding the Apostle's capture have become a goldmine for unscrupulous interests to plant misinformation, absurd speculations and sensationalism offered as the only "historical truth". Some have gone so far as to grossly and deliberately de-heroise Levski, hurling accusations that it was his own fault that he was caught "in his underpants". Others attributed to him the role of the "devil" and hastened to remove the "blame" from Pope Krustyu Nikiforov.
Posing the question whether there was a betrayal that led to the capture of Vasil Levski and what are the real existing clues for this, the lecture-discussion will present the historical facts and examine the existing hypotheses.
During the day, the Historical Circle of Bulgarica Center will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of the Apostle of the Bulgarian Freedom with the presentation of flowers and a memorial service dedicated to Vasil Levski. To pay tribute to the Apostle of Freedom on February 18 from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. we will offer flowers at the Vasil Levski monument in front of the Ivan Rilski Church at 5944 W Cullom Ave, Chicago, IL 60634. In the slightly later afternoon of February 18 at 5:00 pm, a Memorial Service will be held followed by a short talk at St. Sophia Baptist Church at - 404 West Oakton Street, Des Plaines, IL 60018. The event will be attended by various community organizations and will be open to the general public.
Friends,
Let us not forget that the battle to preserve our past is a battle for our future!
Let's honor our national hero together! We are waiting for you!
