The massacre of our countrymen in Eastern and Western Thrace, perpetrated by the
regular Turkish army and the Bashibozouk, can only be compared with the extermination, atrocities and
atrocities against the Bulgarians in Klisura and Panagyurishte, Perushchitsa and Batak. This pogrom, however,
surpassed the April events in magnitude; it was an unfortunate result of the Ottoman systematic
policy of genocide and extermination, as well as decisions taken by the ruling circles in Bulgaria.
The lecture summarizes the vast material of documentary evidence collected by Acad. Lubomir
Miletić, and analyses the causes and consequences of this unspeakable tragedy. The second part will
excerpts from Tonya and Alexander Borisov's amateur film "Chongara - Return
to the roots" (2005).
Friends, let us follow steadfastly the creed that "The battle to preserve our past is a battle to
our future!" Let us not forget our history and let us together honour the memory of thousands of innocent
victims! We are waiting for you!
Clarification: the lecture is not recommended for children and young people under 18 years of age!
